Serving Akron and Summit County

Get involved

Bring what you have. Help build what comes next.

GAP needs hands at events, employers willing to open a door, equipment for the training room, and people who will mentor a kid once the after-school program opens.

Volunteer

Help at a community event, lend a professional skill, or mentor and tutor once the after-school program opens.

Roles with youth or vulnerable participants require screening and a background check. GAP confirms the steps for each role before you start.

Express volunteer interest
02

Partner

Open a clinical site, hire a graduate, speak to a class, mentor someone, host a job shadow, or bring your expertise to an advisory role.

GAP does not put a partner name or logo on this site without a current agreement and written permission.

Support

The training room needs equipment. The classroom needs technology. Programs need supplies, and students will need scholarships.

Online giving is not switched on yet. Email or call and GAP will tell you the current way to give, donate equipment, or sponsor.

Practical support

Give something a program can actually use.

Tell GAP what you have. If it is safe, working, and fits a program that exists or is being built, GAP will take it. If it does not, you will be told that instead of watching it sit in a closet.

Common questions from volunteers and partners

What do volunteers actually do?

It depends on what is running. Right now that means helping at community events and lending a professional skill, such as advising on a program or teaching something you already know. Youth mentoring and tutoring open up when Filling in the GAP launches. Share your interest and GAP will match it to work that is actually happening rather than adding you to a waiting list.

Do I need a background check?

If the role puts you with youth or vulnerable participants, yes. GAP tells you the exact screening steps for that role before you start, not after.

My organization wants to be a clinical or training partner. Where do we start?

With a conversation, and this is the pathway GAP most needs filled. Clinical sites, employers willing to hire, career speakers, mentors, and job shadows all count. Email Precious Love-Ivery at ploveivery@gapfam-outreach.org and say which one you can offer.

I have equipment to donate. Will you take it?

Tell GAP what it is. If it is safe, working, and fits a program that exists or is being built, the answer is usually yes, and refurbished items are judged the same way. GAP would rather turn something down than store equipment it cannot use.

How do I give money?

GAP is a 501(c)(3) public charity and contributions are tax deductible. Online giving is not switched on yet, because GAP has not finished choosing and testing a payment processor and will not put up a payment button it has not tested. Email info@gapfam-outreach.org and you will get the current way to give.

What would my money pay for?

Equipment for the training room and clinical-skills lab, technology for the resource center, program supplies, getting the facility ready for the programs that are being built, youth and family programming, and scholarships for students once that funding is formally set up.
